Uthram Pooja is a Monthly celebration in our temple with special Poojas for Ayyappa Swamy with Ashtabhishekam on Uthram star of every month. Uthram is the birth star of Swami Ayyappa. Every month, Uthram Pooja is solely offered by one family. Doing sacred rituals like Uthram Pooja and Ashtabhishekam with 8 drvyas along with Namajapam and Bhajana creates a divine atmosphere in our temple and helps us to get special blessings of Swami Ayyappa.
Sree Dharma Sasta Hindu Temple of Edmonton, a replica of Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sasta Temple in Kerala , was established in April 2019 for practicing the Hindu spiritual, religious and cultural activities.
Prathishta ceremonies were done following the traditional Tantric rituals under the direction of the Tantri, Sri Dhanu Ramachandran. Main deity is Sree Dharma Sasta, with Ganapathy and Durgadevi on either side.
The poojas and services follow the system which prevails in the temples of Kerala. Uthram pooja with ashta abhishekam is conducted every Malayalam month on the Uthram star which is the birth star of Swami Ayyappa. Nagar Pooja is done every Malayalam month for Ayilyam star. The temple provides a rare facility for all the members of the Hindu community across North America to book poojas and other offerings and get blessings from Swami Ayyappa.
Main festivals include the Prathishta Varshikam, Painguni Uthram, the Temple Utsavam(festival) , Mandalamasam from November to December with Kettunira and Makaravilakku in January.
The temple offers a place for our community to celebrate from Annaprasam(chorunu) , Vidyarambham for kids , to marriages and birthdays. Temple helps us to offer Vavubali to pay respects to our ancestors.
Moreover, being a nonprofit charitable organization, the temple is committed to extend many charity services such as distribution of food and groceries, household items .Programs such as Tatwamasi are conducted for the cultural development of the members of our community. Several fundraising activities were done to support families in their financial crisis.
